I have enjoyed working with children and adults across a variety of settings over the last 25 years. I take a holistic approach to speech by addressing the sensory and postural needs of my clients by fully utilizing programs such as PROMPT™ and rehab-based Pilates.
I have also spent extensive time treating pediatric clients with severe language delays and disorders, helping them learn to communicate successfully.
I hold my Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and am licensed in Virginia.
I love working with families to learn more about how I can help their child in their own natural environment where they are most comfortable. Your time is valuable, and making it out of the house for a couple hours a week for therapy isn't always the most practical option.
I offer my speech therapy services in two office locations (Centreville and Warrenton), in-home and via telecommunication.
We can talk about what your priorities are as a family unit and find solutions to work with your schedule.
I am a PROMPT+ trained SLP. PROMPT™ Therapy is a unique philosophy and approach to assessment and treatment of speech delays or disorders. Being a caregiver for someone with a speech disorder can
at times be difficult and frustrating. It is often difficult to know whom to contact and which evaluation results reflect the challenges your family member is facing. What sets the PROMPT approach apart is its holistic approach to therapy.
I systematically determine where motor breakdowns occur and then focus on word targets that are relevant and have meaning to my clients so they are connected and motivated to what she or he is learning.
If you would like to speak Kate about your concerns, you can book a free consultation. A free consultation consists of a 15-20 minute phone call where you can talk with Kate about your concerns without committing to a full evaluation. Kate will ask questions about your child’s development, address any concerns you may have, and provide recommendations for your child.
Speech therapists, or speech-language pathologists (SLPs), work with children in four main areas: articulation (speech sounds, intelligibility, motor speech disorders), language (receptive and expressive), pragmatics (social language skills), stuttering/fluency, and feeding (oral motor, swallowing, some sensory).
Language therapy is part of speech therapy. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) assess and work on receptive language (what a child understands) and expressive language (how a child communicates his or her wants, needs, and desires).
Typically, a child should be 100% intelligible to unfamiliar listeners by age 4. For younger children, unfamiliar listeners should be able to understand roughly 25% age 1, 50% by age 2, and 75% by age 3.

An evaluation allows a speech therapist the opportunity to assess your child’s development. This assessment may include a standardized test, observation through play, medical history information, and/or parent report. In most cases, it includes all four. Through the evaluation, it will be determined if treatment is necessary. Treatment at KateSaid Speech Therapy cannot be initiated unless an evaluation has been completed or has been completed elsewhere in the last 12 months.
KateSaid Speech Therapy is available Monday – Friday from 9:00AM – 6:00PM and on Saturday by special request appointment. Appointments in the Centreville office are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays only.
KateSaid Speech Therapy is available to provide screenings to children at daycare centers, private schools, religious preschool programs or my office. Screenings are abbreviated evaluations to determine if a child could benefit from further evaluation or if a child’s level of performance is age appropriate and no further evaluation is needed. If your child is found to have mild difficulties yet a full evaluation is not recommended, home programming ideas will be discussed so parents can facilitate these skills at home. If an area of concern is identified, a full evaluation will be recommended.
Yes. Once an evaluation has been scheduled, our office will provide you with a link to a series of documents that KateSaid Speech Therapy needs to be completed prior to your child’s evaluation. It includes a case history form that gives us the background information pertinent to your child’s development. We request that all paperwork be completed in full and returned to us two days prior to your first appointment. If there is a delay in filling out the paperwork, your appointment may have to be rescheduled to a more convenient time.

Yes. Parents are a very important part of treatment at KateSaid Speech Therapy. Parents are often invited into the treatment rooms to observe therapy if the situation is appropriate, and parent education is an integral part of every therapy session. Each session is designed to allow time for the parent and therapist to discuss progress and what was done during the therapy session. Home programs are provided to the parent to increase carryover in all settings and help the child be more successful in reaching their goals.
You can obtain an email copy of my privacy practices by requesting it and you will be provided a HIPAA document at the time of client intake.

Once your child’s initial appointment has been scheduled, you will receive a new patient intake packet to complete electronically. Prior to your first appointment, KateSaid Speech requests all applicable paperwork be completed ahead of time.
